Can I paint my HOGS? It has always been tricky to paint polyethylene, but things are changing.  Here is a technical bulletin on painting polyethylene tanks - bear in mind that unlike many tanks HOG has a rough surface and does not require the prepriming described in this document.  Here is a new product by Kryon that claims new technology for a superior finish and longevity.  Good luck with your painting!

How much does a full HOG weigh?  This is particularly important if you are supporting HOGs on a beam or lintel like this installation in NYC.  The dead weight of a full HOG is 460lb.  The Wall Kit is only designed for lateral support and should not bear any weight downwards.  The base support of HOG must be engineered for its full weight.

How much does a full HOG hold?  Each HOG holds 50-gallons (180-litres).  Unlike most barrels and cisterns you can access the full volume of HOG because the outtake is at the bottom of the tank (not a third-way up the side).  This is because small tanks like HOG do not have an anaerobic zone like larger tanks.

Do HOGs off-gas any nasty chemicals?   Short answer: NO.  HOGs are polyethylene, one of the most benign plastics.  The HOG is food-grade plastic but it does NOT contain BPAs (Bisphenol A) or other bioaccumulating nasties.
Can I reuse my HOGs if I move house? YES!  In fact HOG was the first rainwater tank actively designed to encourage reuse for the duration of its 20+ year design life.  HOG is build stronger and more sturdier than its competitors, which means it can handle being installed, used, disassembled, relocated and reused multiple times.  HOGs 1/4-inch (25mm) wall gives it unparalleled strength in transit and in use.
